Movement

There are several different ways to capture movement in an image. One way is to shoot with a fast shutter speed and freeze the action. Another is to use a slow shutter speed to show the movement with a blur. With these images I wanted to use another way to show movement.

I wanted to use a powder as it came off the dancers to show the movement they just made. To do this you want to light the dancers sort of like you would like smoke. Since the powder is the main element I choose to light from the sides and behind the dancers. I used two big light sources. 60″ Umbrellas on each side. I didn’t use any light in the front at all so the big light sources could wrap around the dancers some and give really nice hard edge lights. It Adds a lot of contrast and I think the results were really good. Let me know what you think.
